AC Installation in Orem UT
Western Heating, Air & Plumbing provides AC installation in Orem, UT, for homeowners who need a new cooling system built around Utah Valley’s specific climate and housing conditions. Many Orem homes were built before central air conditioning was standard. Neighborhoods like Sharon Park, Orem North, and University Place near UVU include properties from the 1950s through 1970s that were never designed with modern cooling loads in mind. Getting the right system, correctly sized for your home’s layout and Orem’s elevation of 4,756 feet, determines how your home performs over the next 15 years.
Our locally owned HVAC company in Orem has served homeowners since 1995. Our installation services are backed by thousands of 4.9-star reviews, BBB accreditation, and Contractor License #12525455-5501. Every new system comes with a 10-year labor warranty at no additional cost. Call 801-921-8995 for a free in-home estimate.
Why AC Installation in Orem Requires Local Expertise
AC installation in Orem requires local expertise because the older housing stock, high elevation, and valley humidity each affect which system works best and how it must be installed.
Older Housing Without Central Air
Many Orem homes in Sharon Park, Orem North, and University Place were built in the 1950s and 1960s without central air conditioning. Ductwork was added later and is often sized for older, lower-capacity equipment. A modern system pushing more airflow through undersized ducts creates static pressure problems, reduces efficiency, and causes the system to short-cycle.
Before recommending any equipment, we measure duct cross-sections and test static pressure to confirm the existing infrastructure can handle the new system’s airflow requirements.
High Elevation at 4,756 Feet
At this altitude, air is thinner than at sea level, which reduces the efficiency with which an AC system transfers heat out of your home. A system sized using standard sea-level calculations will run longer cycles and still not reach your set temperature on peak summer days.
In practical terms, a system rated at three tons at sea level delivers less than three tons of actual cooling capacity at Orem’s elevation. Every load calculation we run includes local elevation data to ensure your new system is sized for what it will actually deliver here, not what it would deliver at a lower altitude.
Utah Lake Humidity in Western Orem
Neighborhoods west of I-15 near Utah Lake and the Provo River carry higher humidity than most of Orem. An AC system has two jobs: removing heat and removing moisture. A system sized only for sensible heat load, without accounting for latent load, will cool the air but leave the home feeling clammy.
For homes in this part of Orem, we calculate both sensible and latent heat loads separately during sizing to ensure the system handles humidity as well as temperature.
When Orem Homeowners Need a New AC Installation
Orem homeowners need a new AC installation in situations that go beyond simple repair or replacement. Here are the most common ones we see across Utah Valley:
- First-Time Central Air in an Older Home: Sharon Park, Orem North, and University Place have a high concentration of homes built in the 1950s and 1960s that were never designed with central cooling. These properties are among the most common installation jobs we handle in Orem.
- Window Units Failing to Keep Up With Utah Valley Heat: Window and portable units cannot manage the combination of high temperatures and humidity that western Orem neighborhoods near Utah Lake experience in July and August. They also significantly increase energy bills compared to a properly sized central system.
- Basement Conversions and Home Additions: Orem has seen steady growth in finished basements and accessory dwelling units, particularly near UVU. When new livable space is added, the existing system almost never has the capacity to cover it.
- Detached Garage or Workshop Cooling: Many Orem homeowners use their garages as year-round workspaces. A ductless mini-split is the most practical solution where running new ductwork is not feasible.
- New Construction in Orem’s Growing Areas: Residential development continues throughout Orem’s western corridor. First-time installations in new builds require load calculations that account for Orem’s elevation and the surrounding valley’s humidity profile.
Our technicians assess your specific situation during a free estimate and recommend the right system and installation approach before any equipment is ordered.

Air Conditioning Systems We Install in Orem
Western Heating, Air & Plumbing installs a full range of residential cooling systems for homes in Orem. Here is what we install and what each system offers for Utah Valley homeowners:
- Central Air Conditioners: For Orem homes with existing ductwork that has been assessed and confirmed to have sufficient capacity, a modern SEER2-rated central AC is the most straightforward installation option. We verify duct static pressure before sizing to ensure the system delivers the correct airflow throughout your home.
- Ducted Air Source Heat Pumps: A strong installation choice for Orem homeowners who want a single system that handles both summer cooling and Utah Valley’s cold winters. Heat pumps move heat rather than generating it, which makes them more efficient across the shoulder seasons. We size every heat pump for Orem’s elevation and winter temperature range to ensure year-round performance.
- Cold-Climate Heat Pumps: Engineered to maintain efficient heating even when temperatures in Utah Valley drop below freezing. This is an increasingly popular first-installation choice for older Orem homes, where combining efficient cooling and winter heating into a single system makes more financial sense than maintaining separate equipment.
- Ductless Mini-Split Systems: The most practical option for Orem homes without existing ductwork. Older properties in Sharon Park and Orem North often lack adequate ductwork, making mini-splits the right solution. Each indoor unit conditions its own zone independently with no duct installation required.
- Hybrid Dual-Fuel Systems: A heat pump paired with a gas furnace that switches automatically based on outdoor temperature. The heat pump efficiently handles cooling in summer and mild-weather heating. The furnace takes over during Utah Valley’s coldest winter nights. This gives Orem homeowners year-round efficiency without sacrificing heating power in extreme cold.
- Variable Speed Systems: A premium installation choice for larger Orem homes where consistent room-by-room temperature control and humidity management matter. These systems continuously adjust output to match the real-time cooling load, run quietly at partial capacity most of the time, and handle Utah Valley’s lake-basin humidity more effectively than single-stage equipment.
- Zoned AC Systems: Ideal for two-story or split-level homes in Orem where temperature differences between floors have been a persistent problem. Zoning divides your home into separately controlled areas, so upstairs bedrooms and main-floor living spaces can maintain different temperatures simultaneously.
- Straight Cool Systems: A budget-focused installation for Orem homeowners who already have a functioning gas furnace and only need dedicated cooling added. Lower upfront cost than a heat pump, with no cooling performance compromise.
How We Size Your New AC System for Orem
Correct sizing is the most critical factor in any new AC installation in Orem. An oversized system short-cycles. It turns on and off too quickly to properly dehumidify your home, and it wastes energy doing so. An undersized system runs constantly and cannot keep up on the hottest Utah Valley afternoons.
We size every system using a Manual J load calculation. This accounts for your home’s square footage, ceiling height, insulation levels, window placement, ductwork condition, and Orem’s specific elevation at 4,756 feet. We also factor in the latent heat load for homes in the western parts of Orem near Utah Lake and the Provo River corridor, where humidity runs higher than in drier parts of the valley.
For older Orem homes in Sharon Park, Orem North, and University Place, we also assess ductwork capacity before recommending system size. Original ducts in these homes were often sized for lower cooling loads than modern systems require. Where ductwork is undersized or leaking, we address that as part of the installation plan.
Rebates, Incentives, and Financing for Orem Homeowners
Orem homeowners installing a new high-efficiency AC system may qualify for rebates and incentives that reduce the net upfront cost.
- Rocky Mountain Power Wattsmart Rebates: Rocky Mountain Power offers rebates on qualifying central AC systems and heat pumps that meet minimum efficiency thresholds. Rebate amounts vary by system type and efficiency rating.
- Federal 25C Tax Credits: Certain qualifying heat pump systems installed in your primary residence are eligible for federal tax credits of up to $2,000 per year through the Inflation Reduction Act’s Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit.
- Western Specials and Discounts: We regularly offer promotions on new AC installations in Orem. Visit our Specials page to see what is currently available.
- Flexible Financing: A new AC installation does not have to be an all-at-once expense. We work with trusted lending partners to offer financing plans that spread the cost over time and fit a range of household budgets. Monthly energy savings from a more efficient system often help offset the financing payment.
Our team can walk you through rebate eligibility, available credits, current specials, and financing options during your free estimate.

We pull all required permits, schedule inspections, and ensure your new system meets current Utah State mechanical code. - Final Walkthrough: We walk you through operating your new system, explain the filter schedule, and answer your questions before we leave.
Benefits of a New AC Installation in Orem
A new, properly sized AC installation in Orem delivers benefits that go beyond simply replacing old equipment. Here is what Orem homeowners gain:
- Reliable Cooling for the First Time. For older Sharon Park and Orem North homes that have never had central air, a new installation can transform how the whole home feels during Utah Valley’s summer months.
- Correct Humidity Control. A properly sized new system manages both temperature and humidity. This matters especially in Orem neighborhoods near Utah Lake and the Provo River corridor where humidity levels run higher.
- Lower Energy Bills. Modern SEER2-rated systems use significantly less electricity than older equipment or the window units they replace. That difference appears on your Rocky Mountain Power bill every month during the cooling season.
- 10-Year Labor Warranty. Every system we install comes with our extended warranty covering both parts and labor for a full decade at no additional cost – five times the industry standard two-year coverage.
- Better Indoor Air Quality. New systems with updated filtration manage Silicon Slopes construction dust circulating through Orem homes more effectively than older equipment or window units.
- Potential Rebates and Tax Credits. Qualifying high-efficiency systems may be eligible for Rocky Mountain Power Wattsmart rebates and federal 25C tax credits, which can reduce your net upfront cost.

5/2026 I wanted to come update my review on Western. Our HVAC system needs to be replaced and it was obvious we wanted Western to perform that service. We also got two other bids just to ensure we're getting the best deal. Western came in with a premium unit at a higher than premium cost. Even though an expert came into my home, he did not offer us the proper system until we asked for it. Once we had the correct unit, he still offered a mediocre HVAC system at a higher than premium price. Once we pushed back they came down substantially. My advice is realize their private equity investors are their top priority, not their customers. And to fight for a fair price because that will not be offered up by them.

Ondrej Lewitt was extremely patient as I followed him around during the AC tune-up. A lot of his time was spent answering my questions. He found the failed capacitor that convinced me it was time to replace the system.
Tyler Harward and Pedro did a great job of installing my two new furnaces and new heat pump A/C. They were also patient with my questions and did an excellent job of installing the equipment. I've already recommended Western to my brother and will continue to use them when any HVAC or plumbing issues come up in the future.

We ended up with just having the coils cleaned. The cost was $520.00 which seemed a bit steep. However Ethan the technician was great. Showed and explained what he had to do to clean the coils. Was very efficient. Work space was clean after he finished. He did a great job. Very pleasant and respectful. Ethan deserves a 5 star rating. 3 stars because of the miss communication between scheduler and supervisor.

When I returned home after about a week, I found an absolute mess: the furnace room door was off its hinges, there was a furnace filter propped next to the furnace, and general disarray in the space. I went to work trying to clean things up and discovered that the problems were even worse than I expected. Not only was the door of its hinges, it had actually been broken. The technician didn’t even mention it, let alone offer to fix it. The furnace filter that was propped by the furnace was mangled and torn and plastic packaging (like from a new filter) was stuffed inside it. We figured out that the one leaning there was the new filter I had installed about 6 weeks before (and did not need to be changed) and the plastic was from the spare I keep on hand. It’s a tight squeeze to get the filter in and out and requires care not to damage it. Clearly the technician wasn’t careful and simply ripped it out of its housing. Again, no mention of this from the technician and no offer to replace what he ruined.
Upon further inspection, I found that one of the seals around the PVC pipe that delivers air to the unit was not in place. I went back and looked at the pictures from the previous service (in March) and it was properly seated, which makes me question whether the technician knew what he was doing or cared at all to do the job right. I’ve canceled my service contract with Western Heating and will never utilize their services again. I’d caution you against using them as well.

FAQs
How much does AC installation cost in Orem UT?
The cost depends on the system type, your home’s size, ductwork condition, and efficiency rating. Ductless mini-split installations for older Orem homes without existing ductwork typically cost more than central AC replacements in homes with functional ducts. We provide free in-home estimates with a full written price before you commit to anything.
How do you size a new AC system for an Orem home?
We use a Manual J load calculation that accounts for your home’s square footage, ceiling height, insulation levels, window placement, ductwork condition, and Orem’s elevation at 4,756 feet. For homes near Utah Lake and the Provo River corridor, we also account for the higher latent heat load due to valley humidity. For older Sharon Park and Orem North homes, we assess duct capacity before recommending system size.
How long does AC installation take in Orem?
Most standard central AC installations are completed in one day. More complex projects, such as ductless mini-split systems with multiple indoor units or hybrid dual-fuel installations, may take two days, depending on the scope of work. We give you a clear timeline during your free estimate.
Does Orem require a permit for AC installation?
New AC installations in Orem require mechanical permits from the Utah County building department. We handle all permit applications, schedule required inspections, and ensure your new system meets current Utah State mechanical code. An unpermitted installation can affect your homeowner’s insurance and create complications at resale.
Do you install AC systems in older Orem homes without existing ductwork?
Ductless mini-split systems are the most common installation option for older homes in Sharon Park, Orem North, and University Place that lack adequate duct infrastructure. Each indoor unit conditions its own zone with no major ductwork required. We also install hybrid dual-fuel systems and cold-climate heat pumps for these properties.
What warranty comes with a new AC installation in Orem?
Every system we install comes with a 10-year parts-and-labor warranty at no additional cost. This extends the standard 2-year labor warranty to 10 years and combines with the manufacturer’s parts warranty, giving you full coverage for a decade.
Do you offer financing for AC installation in Orem?
We work with trusted lending partners to offer financing plans for a range of budgets. Monthly energy savings from a more efficient system often help offset the financing payment. When combined with available rebates and tax credits, the net cost of a new high-efficiency system can be significantly lower than the sticker price suggests.
