Tips for Saving Energy While You’re On Vacation

Good Air Quality

Saving energy isn’t impossible when you’re going on vacation. You can do this both at the home you’ve left and while on vacation. Western Heating and Cooling offers some tips for saving this resource while you’re away…

At-Home Conservation

The key here is turning things off. This will drastically decrease your energy use (and bills!) while you’re gone. This includes:

  1. Turning off your heating and cooling system – or setting it to a high temperature – while you’re away. Unless you have pets. These high temps or lack of circulation can be problematic, so you may have to board them during your vacation time.
  2. Turn off your appliances. This includes your water heater and your refrigerator. They are guzzling electricity, and so if they’re off, they can’t suck up energy.
  3. Turn off fans, lights, and electronics you have in your home. Again, these are just consuming energy and electricity, so make sure you don’t have them on while you’re away. If you’re not currently using these devices, why have them on?

While on Your Trip

You can also do some solid energy-saving on your vacation. These steps include taking public transportation around the location and/or go places on foot. You save so much energy this way!
