Celebrating 30 Years of Service: A Journey of Integrity, Excellence, Family, and Gratitude
Thirty years ago, a man with a van, a toolbox, and a dream took a leap of faith. In 1995, Rod Black founded Western Heating & Air Conditioning with a simple yet powerful mission: to provide honest, reliable, and high-quality HVAC services to the people of Utah Valley. Together with his wife, Carol, they built a company rooted in trust and integrity—values that still define us today.
In 2007, Ryan and I were honored to continue the legacy that Rod and Carol built. We knew we weren’t just buying a business—we were inheriting a community, a reputation, and a responsibility to uphold the standards that had made Western Heating & Air Conditioning a household name. As we celebrate 30 years in business, we reflect on the incredible journey that has brought us here and the many people who have made this milestone possible.
Growing With Our Community
Over the years, Western Heating, Air & Plumbing has grown in ways we never could have imagined. From a small HVAC business with a handful of employees to a thriving company serving thousands of customers across Salt Lake and Utah Counties, our journey has been fueled by hard work, passion, and the unwavering support of our community.
One of the most significant milestones in our growth was the addition of our plumbing division. Expanding into plumbing allowed us to better serve our customers and meet more of their home comfort needs with the same level of excellence and care they expect. Another major step forward was joining forces with Main Street Heating & Cooling, which helped us expand our reach and serve even more families from North Salt Lake to Santaquin and now into Heber.
While our company has grown, our core values have remained the same: Integrity, Excellence, Family, and Gratitude.
A Legacy of Service
One of our greatest strengths is our commitment to giving back. We believe a business isn’t just about making a profit—it’s about making a difference. That’s why community service has always been at the heart of what we do.
Through our Gift of Heat program, we’ve been able to donate furnaces to families in need, ensuring that no one has to go through a Utah winter without warmth. Supporting The Emily Effect has allowed us to contribute to an organization that raises awareness and provides resources for maternal mental health, a cause that is close to our hearts.
And, of course, there’s our Red Handkerchief Promise, a symbol of trust, hard work, dedication, honesty, and doing a job right. This tradition was inspired by Ryan’s father, who always carried a red handkerchief in his back pocket while working on the family farm—a simple yet powerful reminder of the values he lived by. Today, our team carries red handkerchiefs as a daily commitment to those same principles, ensuring that every job is done with integrity and care, just as our customers expect and deserve.

While Ryan and I have been fortunate to lead Western Heating, Air & Plumbing, we know we wouldn’t be where we are today without our incredible team. Our technicians, installers, customer service representatives, and support staff work tirelessly to ensure every customer receives top-notch service. They are the heart of this company, and their dedication and hard work inspire us every day.
Behind every one of our employees is a family that supports them, and we also want to extend our deepest gratitude to them. The long hours, emergency calls, and dedication our team brings to their work wouldn’t be possible without the love and encouragement of their families.
