Summer Maintenance: Part 1

Summer Maintenance

Now that the summer is officially upon us, chances are you are running your HVAC system practically non-stop in an attempt to stay cool. At Western Heating & Air we know that your system needs regular summer maintenance in order for your air conditioner to run full blast during the hottest days of the year. The following tips will not only keep your unit up and running when you need it most, but can also help you save energy and money.

Clean Around the Outdoor Unit

As the weather warms up, plants and weeds begin to grow all around your yard. If you are not careful, debris from vegetation can build up around your outdoor unit, which can keep it from pulling air inside efficiently. Keeping the area around the unit clear is an easy summer maintenance tip that anyone can do.

Change the Air Filters

If there is one HVAC maintenance tip that can save you a lot of time and money, this one is it. When you change or clean out your system’s air filters, you can reduce the amount of energy consumed by your air conditioner by up to 15 percent. We tell our customers to wash their reusable filters or replace their disposable ones once a month during the summer, due to heavy use.

Find the Ideal Temperature

Instead of setting your thermostat to a colder temperature in an attempt to cool your house down faster, set it to your ideal temperature. This will prevent the unit from working longer that it needs to. Making your AC work too hard may result in the need for repairs more often.

If you follow these summer maintenance tips, but still need a professional to come take a look at your HVAC system, do not hesitate to contact Western Heating & Air today.
